Our Story
ICCD is committed to making a meaningful and significant
impact in the lives of the 70 million deaf around the world, especially in
countries where they are rejected and ignored. Founded in 1992, ICCD seeks to
meet the needs of the whole person: spiritual, social, educational, and
financial. We minister to deaf children in a residential school in Mexico. In our safe and loving environment, they receive nutritious meals, an
education, and skills to carry them to a fulfilling life. In Cuba, we have partnered with more
than 300 national churches. The friendless, the alcoholic, the prostitute and the
witch doctor are now respectable, fulfilled members of their community.
How rewarding to see hundreds of deaf come alive in their
love of God, their understanding of moral and spiritual values, and in their
concern for the needs of others. Their lives are changed, and they are lifted
to new heights of dignity and respect. The illiterate are now reading, the
exploited are now secure, the alcoholic are now responsible citizens, the
neglected are now respected, the helpless are now helping, and the lost are now
children of God.
ICCD’s staff averages more than 20 years of individual
working experience in international ministry to the deaf involving schools,
churches, a village and a factory. Having met their qualifications for
excellence, we are also privileged to be an affiliate ministry of Joni and
Friends founded by the world-renowned quadriplegic, Joni Earickson Tada.
We've celebrated our fifteenth anniversary
of reaching the deaf in the world for Christ. Our experiences have stretched us
in finding better ways to do what we do, but most of all they have humbled us to
depend on God in everything we do. God has entrusted us with an enormous vision
(70 million deaf scattered across the entire globe), but He is an enormous God.
By faith we press on, believing that God is able to do exceeding abundantly
above all we ask or think. With joy, we anticipate the day we will join the redeemed
deaf and worship God because He alone is worthy of glory, honor and power.
