The Church Planting Model
Reaching
the deaf for Christ by planting churches for the deaf within hearing churches.
Church bodies are essential for all believers, and the deaf are no exception. Along with providing an opportunity for corporate worship, the church will
edify, shepherd and nurture believers and evangelize the lost. This model is
the most effective way of reaching deaf who know sign language and
providing them with pastoral care.
Church planting is accelerated where the deaf already know sign language. In countries where there are educated deaf, we pray that God
will burden the national church to minister to them. At the church's invitation, we
will assist them in planting churches for the deaf within their existing churches.
We trust the Lord to burden many of the hearing church
members to minister to the deaf as interpreters. ICCD will train them in sign language, deaf culture, and methods of ministry. These believers will
interpret sermons and lead prayer meetings and Bible studies.
ICCD will try to interest the national Bible schools
and seminaries in offering courses in sign language, deaf culture, and methods
of ministry to the deaf. We trust the Lord that future pastors will
establish a deaf ministry when they enter the pastorate.
We will hold camps for interpreters, deaf children and deaf
adults. We will train the deaf in practical subjects such as marriage and
family life. For the deaf who are eager to know God better and to understand
His Word more fully, we will offer courses in Biblical theological training.
We cannot use this model exclusively because very few
countries have a large number of educated deaf. To reach those deaf who do not have
a form of communication, we must begin by teaching them sign language.
