God is at work in Cuba!

God is doing an amazing work in Cuba, and we’re thrilled to be in the middle of it with Him! Fidel Castro and his brother, Raul, have led communist Cuba for almost 50 years. They greatly value education and have equipped every deaf person with an invaluable gift – communication through Cuban Sign Language. This allows us to skip the education phase and move right into ministry with the deaf. What a blessing!  

The Needs of the Deaf
The needs of the deaf in Cuba are similar to those of the deaf around the world. They wonder why their hearing neighbors reject them, though they are educated and skilled. They long for true friendship, purpose and fulfillment. Sadly, many seek to drown their frustration in alcohol, prostitution and spirit worship. ICCD thanks God for using us to share His Great Story with these lost sheep. As God draws them into His fold, He takes their sorrow and replaces it with joy.

Working in Cuba
From the outset of our ministry in Cuba, the Lord has made it possible for us to operate in compliance with Cuban and US regulations. We receive licenses from the US Treasury Department to visit Cuba and to fund the work. On the Cuban side, we work alongside ANSOC, the agency established to meet the needs of the Cuban deaf. This has been a profitable relationship for both ICCD and ANSOC, and ANSOC has thanked us for the work we do.

We have the great blessing and privilege of partnering with over 330 Cuban churches in every province in the island. ICCD trains hearing Christians in Cuban Sign Language so that they can befriend the deaf in their communities. We work with the churches to help them develop effective ministries to the deaf, and we praise God that now the deaf are among those ministering. The Great Change
Time and again, we witness the radical change as God transforms yet another life. The friendless, the alcoholic, the prostitute, the witch doctor – all are now respectable, fulfilled members of their community. How rewarding to see hundreds of deaf come alive in their love of God, in their understanding of moral and spiritual values, and in their concern for the needs of others. They are changed. The exploited are now secure, the alcoholic are now responsible citizens, the neglected are respected, the helpless are now helping, and the lost are now children of God.
